16 January, 1964 - I Want To Hold Your Hand Becomes Beatles' First USA No.1

USA No.1

Whilst in Paris for a series of performances at the Olimpia Theatre, Brian Epstein informs the band that they've reached No.1 in the USA with I Want To Hold Your Hand.

"We couldn't believe it. We all just started acting like people from Texas, hollering and shouting, 'Yah-hoo!'. I think that was the night we finished up sitting on a bench by the Seine; just the four of us and Neil (Aspinall, the band's road manager)"

Ringo

In just a few weeks, the Beatles' historic first US visit would begin, with the band's performance premiere on the Ed Sullivan Show that captivated the nation.
