The People Who Painted Yellow Submarine By Hand - Cell By Cell

Yellow Submarine is as analogue an animated film as you can get. There are over 132,000 frames in the 90 minute surrealist odyssey, and each one was hand-painted by one of the dozens of art students who worked through the night for months, trying to reach an almost impossible deadline for the film's completion. Fed on bangers n mash and the good spirit of the production, the crew came to look back on this time with great fondness. Without them, we wouldn't have had the film at all.

Watch the video to hear John Coates - Yellow Submarine's Production Supervisor - talking about the people behind the film and how the making of it came together.
