February 27th, 1965

#OTD in 1965, The Beatles were in The Bahamas, shooting scenes for Help!

'Going to The Bahamas'

The film has been regarded by many as a parody of contemporary Bond films, complete with power crazy despots, mad inventors, and capers through exotic locations including the Bahamas and the snowy mountains of Austria.

Making Help!

It's also been credited as being the forerunner to contemporary rock musicals and pop videos.

The Making Of Beatles For Sale

This is an extract from the album's liner notes, written by Derek Taylor, the band's press officer:

There's priceless history between these covers. None of us is getting any younger. When, in a generation or so, a radio-active, cigar-smoking child, picnicking on Saturn, asks you what the Beatle affair was all about---'Did you actually know them?'---don't try to explain all about the long hair and the screams! Just play the child a few tracks from this album and he'll probably understand what it was all about. The kids of AD 2000 will draw from the music much the same sense of well being and warmth as we do today.
